The Plan:
On Friday,
students got their class syllabus, student companion book, and information on
how to access our digits online program. This week we will go to the computer
lab to become familiar with how to use this new program. Below are instructions
on how to access the digits program online. We also will be starting Unit A Topic
1 later this week.

Monday:Today we went to the computer lab and took Unit A Readiness Assessment. This pre-test was to practice using our online digits curriculum and to assess where students are as we start our first unit.
Tuesday:We were back in the classroom today doing a Readiness lesson for Topic 1, Variables and Expressions. Students worked in groups to find and compare music contest scores by using addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Their assignment was the "Rating Music Artist" sheet that we did in class.
Also, I showed the students that they might need to check the settings on their home computers to make sure they are able to log on and complete homework assignments. On the digits page below where you log in there is a blue link that says: Check your digits System Requirements.
I suggested students make sure their computer settings are updated before Thursday, so in case they need to update programs, they will be ready.
Wednesday: Today we practiced doing homework in the computer lab. Students were assigned r1 to complete in class. Tomorrow we will start Topic 1 in class. I will be assigning an activity. It would be beneficial for students to log in to digits at home tonight to make sure they are able to complete the assignment at home tomorrow evening. (see above about checking digits system requirements)
Thursday: We began Topic 1 lesson 1 today in class. Students did a card sort activity with their team, took notes using the interactive digits lesson on the smartboard, and some classes practiced with a Quiz Quiz Trade cooperative learning activity. The assignment is to complete 1-1 homework online. Students must show their work on notebook paper. Students set up their paper in class so it is ready to go. We have practiced making sure our notebook paper shows our work in an organized manner. Because we didn't complete lesson 1-1 today and it is our first online homework assignment, it is not due until Monday, August 26.
Friday:Today we finished lesson 1-1 in digits. We reviewed order of operations, numerical expressions and student learned how to show their work to solve problems with multiple operations. 1-1 homework (online) is due Monday. Students must show their ORGANIZED work on notebook paper for numbers; 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15.
